The Harley Davidson Store is Awesome

Harley Davidson Store

Because of the weather, and work of course, Jim and I don’t get a chance to ride much during the winter. So of course, I like to check out all things Harley, especially new Harley Davidson clothing and accessories from the Harley Davidson store.

The new Heart & Dagger Active Wear Jacket is right up my alley. This would really come in handy after a spring ride. The artwork is feminine, yet strong and features a dagger and a heart with outstretched wings. I really like the hand warmer pockets as I can never keep my hands warm enough…oh well; you know what they say, cold hands, warm heart.

I love cute sleepwear and the Harley Davidson store certainly doesn’t disappoint. The new Hearts Sleep Tank with matching Hearts Sleep Short is perfect for summer. The red tank commemorates Harley Davidson Motorcycles since 1903.

Other new items from the Harley Davidson store that I may also order include the Heart Long sleeve plaid shirt and the, “Since 1903,” Sleep hoodie. The Harley Davidson store also carries some cool jewelry. The Lock and Key earrings and the Lock and Key bracelet are on my wish list for sure.

If you have been following our blog, you will know that I really love leather. Leather jackets and pants keep me warm on a cold Travels with Harley trip, but like most women, you can never have enough leather jackets, especially those from the Harley Davidson store.

I love pink, but because my leathers are orange and black, along with the mask that I bought last fall, I like to stick with the same color family.

The Madrona leather jacket from the Harley Davidson store is my favorite, so far anyway! The two-tone dark brown and black jacket features a zip off hood and two vertical zip pockets on the inside. The embroidered Harley Davidson emblem on the back gives this one of a kind motorcycle jacket a classic look. I hope that Jim will read this blog and get the hint!

Although it’s not leather, the Cora three in one mesh jacket has a removable fleece hood that is removable as well as body armor pockets and it matches my orange and black leathers. I also like the thumb holes in the cuffs.

When it comes to the Harley Davidson store, I’m hooked, and after just one look, I’ll bet you will be too.

Harley Davidson and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

Travels with Harley

Just a few days ago, January 15th to be exact, Harley Davidson announced that it is in the last stages of a contractual agreement between Harley Davidson and the City of Sturgis, and although the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is still a few months away, Harley Davidson owners and chapters alike are buzzing with the news.

Travels with Harley

According to the article, Harley Davidson is in the final stages of an agreement that puts Harley Davidson as the official bike for the Sturgis Rally, best of all, the agreement will be in place for the next seventy-five years.

Travels with Harley

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally began back in 1938 and was originally meant for races and stunts, but since that time, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has evolved into the place to be seen and heard if you own a motorcycle especially a Harley Davidson. One of the largest events of its kind on the planet, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally welcomes all riders, but is especially popular with Harley Davidson enthusiasts.

Travels with Harley

Held every August in Sturgis, South Dakota, the first Sturgis Motorcycle Rally took place on August 14 in 1938 and was started by the Jackpine Gypsies motorcycle club.

Travels with Harley

That first year, 19 people participated in the stunts and racing that included a half mile racing track, ramp jumps, board wall crashes and, believe it or not, head on collisions with cars.

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has been held every year since 1938, with the exception of WWII when it was cancelled because of gas rations.

The small town of Sturgis, population 6,627, depends on the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which brings in more than 800 million dollars each year. In 2011, the City of Sturgis brought in over $270,000 thanks to the presale of sponsorships and event guides.

This year sees the 75th anniversary of the famous or infamous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally from August 3 to August 9 and promises to be the best yet with a planned permanent Harley Plaza to be built on Main Street in Sturgis.

Travels with Harley

The new plaza will be built with bricks from the Juneau Harley Davidson headquarters and will incorporate a stage for concerts and events at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as well as a Harley Davidson only parking area.

Demea and Jim

Jim and I are really happy about the partnership between Harley Davidson and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and can’t wait to hear what else unfolds before the massive Sturgis Motorcycle Rally event in South Dakota this summer.

Harley Davidson Bikes for Women

Every time we go on a Harley Davidson road trip or a Travels with Harley adventure, I am teased about riding on the back of the Road King. It seems like quite a few couples that we have met over the years in the Harley Davidson chapters all over the states each have their own motorcycles. Of course, I might have my own bike someday, but I’m still quite comfortable leaving the Road King in Jim’s hands. With that being said, I have started to check out some of the bikes that would be appropriate for women.

I consider myself an average size woman and while I do work out and try to keep fit there are some Harley Davidson motorcycles that I could not handle. I don’t’ know if I could handle a Harley Davidson Heritage or a Harley Davidson Fat Boy for that matter. One of the best things about Harley Davidson is the fact that there is a style and model for every person out there regardless of your size.

I really like the look of the Harley Davidson Sportster SL883L. With a seat height of 660mm, it doesn’t make me feel like I have to grab a step stool just to go for a ride. Harley Davidson designed the L with us in mind with its low seat and smaller front wheel. The bike isn’t light and weighs in at 252 kg, but because the weight actually sits lower in the chassis, you don’t really notice. Another plus of the L is that the handlebars offer a closer reach. The classic cruiser has a big sound, but isn’t considered a rocket ship. Actually, I think Jim would prefer that I didn’t hit the road going 100MPH; he has and always will be one for safety.

Another Harley Davidson that is popular with the ladies is the Big Twin models, especially the Softail Deluxe FLSTN. Introduced in 2005, I’ve seen more and more gals riding it right alongside the Softails, Dynas and the Touring models. The 2009 Softail Deluxe is pretty nice and I’ll bet Jim and I could find a really nice one at an even better price.

Back in 2014, Harley Davidson launched two new motorcycles especially for women. The Street 500 and the Street 750 were the first new bikes introduced by Harley Davidson in 13 years with the bosses at Harley Davidson hoping that every woman will have one tucked away in the garage.

The Harley Davidson Street models are sleeker and have smaller handle grips along with lower seats. The foot peg positions are different and seem to appeal to women Harley Davidson riders.

The jury is still out as to whether or not I will ever ride my own Harley Davidson, but until then I am quite happy to ride shotgun with my husband on our Harley Davidson road trips.

Dreaming about Harley Davidson Rides

Now that the weather has become too cold to navigate on the Road King, Jim and I have been spending these winter nights dreaming about Harley Davidson Rides and deciding where we will go and what we will do once the daffodils begin to bloom. I recently checked out some really good Harley Davidson Rides that aren’t too far from home and offer us the perfect weekend getaway.

We’ve been on the Hellbender Tour, which was fantastic, but after some research, I’ve discovered some Harley Davidson Rides that Jim and I are going to have to check out this spring.

Missouri isn’t called the, “Show me state,” for nothing. With its streams, rivers, lakes, rolling hills and stunning plains, the open roads are literally endless and a must for anyone who owns a Harley Davidson, or any other bike for that matter.

To the south is the impressive Ozark Mountains with popular Harley Davidson Rides that include The Glade Top Trail Ride that runs through the Great River Road and the Ozark Hill Country. Both are good Harley Davidson Rides for beginning and advanced riders.

Although Missouri does experience some cooler temps during the spring, it really is a great time to get out and enjoy the sunshine. The Mark Twain National Forest is a unique historical destination for Harley Davidson Rides that folks from all over the world enjoy. Because the roads are among the best in the United States, the rolling terrain is easy to maneuver, yet varied just enough to offer exciting Harley Davidson Rides for all to enjoy.

Located just south of Missouri, Arkansas has some beautiful Harley Davidson Rides for everyone. The Pig Tail Ride is about a seven-hour ride that takes you through Eureka Springs, Saint Paul, Huntsville, Withrow Springs, Berryville, Green Forrest, Jasper, and Clarksville. Ride above ground through Withrow Springs State Park or venture on a below ground adventure visiting the Crystal Dome and the Mystic Caverns.

The caves at the Mystic Caverns are pretty cool as is the Mulberry River, which is recognized nationally as the National Wild and Scenic River. This area is also known for its large population of native Black Bears.

Spring is still a few months away, but there are plenty of motorcycle activities that I will share with you next week before we head out on another Travels with Harley.
