Delaware is one of the few tax free shopping states in the United States, and if you know Jim and I, we love to shop, well, actually I prefer to shop more than Jim does, but the two words, tax and free are certainly good reasons to seek out Delaware motorcycle rides.

Delaware has a rich history with both urban and rural scenery. Delaware motorcycle rides offer bikers thick forests and amazing shorelines. If you decide to go on a lengthy ride and spend a few days in the state you will find great hiking trails, beaches and, if you enjoy gambling, casinos.

If you are like Jim and enjoy a challenge, check out the Delaware Coast Run. This 60-mile Delaware motorcycle ride is a two-lane road that passes through farmland and coastal estuaries. According to most bikers, the road is a lot of fun, but has quite a few blind curves. You can stop at the Air Mobility Museum that is located at Dover End or have a plate of famous Dover crab at Sambo’s Tavern in Leipsic. Lots of H.O.G members rave about the Augustine Inn at Augustine beach for a coldie and can’t stop talking about Kelly’s Crab House in Port Penn.

US Highway 13 is one of those 76-mile Delaware motorcycle rides that you will not want to miss. Although it is stop and go at first, once you get going you will pick up some speed as you pass farms, creeks and rivers. You will ride through quite a few state parks and forests with unbeatable scenery in Shad Landing State Park, the Redden State Forest, and the Pocomoke River State Forest. Pack a picnic lunch or bring your fishing pole as the state parks offer all kinds of activities if you are on Delaware motorcycle rides.

Although it is quite flat, the 73 mile Delaware Countdown 16 15 14 13 has lots of sweeping turns that most riders will enjoy. Just like Ohio you will ride through Amish country when you go through West Dover and Camden, so be sure to keep an eye out for buggies. The ride takes about 2 hours and really is the best way to avoid the beach traffic during the warmer months. If you want to stretch your legs or stop for lunch, try Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. Apparently, the food is to die for. Personally, I want to try the sweet heat chicken and shrimp with a side of homemade black beans.
