New Friends and a New Chapter

Jim and I have shopped at our local Harley dealer, Bourbeuse Valley Harley Davidson, since we first moved to Washington, MO. The dealership is only about 12 miles away and located in Villa Ridge. We bought our Road King there and the staff are really great people. Sometimes we’ll just drop in to window shop and gab with the gang as they treat us like family.

We have been members of the Harley Owners Group since we bought our Panhead in 2007, but we had not joined our local chapter, mostly because we thought we had to make sure we attended the monthly meetings. We had two Sears stores at the time, and making that kind of commitment would be nearly impossible.

After the last big round of storms, the Rising River, Jim and I had met a couple who just happened to be members of the Bourbeuse Valley chapter. They told us that there were no mandatory commitments for our local chapter and we would be welcome whenever we could make it, so I sent in our dues and paperwork for the both of us to join. We were both really looking forward to it, as it’s always nice to meet new people that we can ride with.

It was the end of June and the chapters end of the month ride so Jim and I were able to jump on the Road King and ride along. It would be our first, “Travels with Harley,” with our new local chapter.

The weather held off until the end of the ride, but we weren’t out of the woods yet and got caught in a downpour so we decided to stop at a McDonalds in Columbia, IL to dry out for a bit. Jim and I have lots of rain gear, but because the forecast called for clear skies, we were hoping that we would stay dry, but it seems like every time we do that, it starts to rain. Luckily, the storm passed quickly and we were able to head home without anymore downpours.

Jim and I really like our new chapter and are quite happy that we’ve been asked to carry the chapter flag in the parade for the 110th Harley Davidson anniversary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin over Labor Day weekend. Jim and I had already made plans to go, so this is going to be icing on the cake. Of course, we plan on taking lots of pictures and I am sure that we will have plenty of adventures to share with you and our, “Travels with Harley.”
