Travels with Harley Winter Motorcycle Rides

winter motorcycle rides

Winter motorcycle rides aren’t impossible, especially if you are one of the lucky ones that live in Arizona or California, and although this winter the entire country seems to be getting its fair share of rain and snow, there are some winter motorcycle rides that you can enjoy.

winter motorcycle rides

Bisbee Arizona

This nostalgic border town is well-preserved and looks like a film set out of the Old West. One of the best places to stop for a bite is the High Desert Market and Café located on Tombstone Canyon in Historic Old Bisbee. Enjoy the Mexican Scramble before heading north to Tombstone where you can enjoy a gunfight and some other interesting old west memorabilia.

winter motorcycle rides

Wickenburg Arizona

If you can’t get enough of the old west, you will love Wickenburg. Just northwest of Phoenix, you can enjoy winter motorcycle rides all year round, whether you prefer dirt or paved roads. With so much to do and see in this old western town, don’t miss the Vulture Mine Tour, you may never want to leave.

winter motorcycle rides

Santa Monica Mountains California

With lots of twists and turns, it is rare that you will find better winter motorcycle rides in California than the roads in and around the Santa Monica Mountains. The paved roads are quite narrow so make sure that you check your route for conditions before you head out. Stop at the infamous Rock Store, located on Mulholland Drive, and don’t forget to have a meal at Neptune’s Net on PCH in Malibu. The clam chowder is to die for.

Winter motorcycle rides

Angeles Crest Highway

This 66-mile mountain rural ride takes you from La Canada to Highway 2 heading east up to the mountains ending in Wrightwood. A huge chunk of the ride takes you through the mountains just north of the LA basin. This year there is a lot of snow, and although the road is quite new, it is important to check your conditions before you venture out on winter motorcycle rides.

The Tunnel of Trees

Located in Michigan, the Tunnel of Trees is one of the most beautiful and scenic spring motorcycle rides that you will not want to miss. Unlike mountain tunnels, the Tunnel of Trees covers the road with a beautiful canopy that is stunning during fall and spring. You’ll drive through forests and small towns before making your way to the coast. Stop for a bite to eat at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant or have a sandwich at Gurney’s Bottle Shop in Harbor Springs, which is known for their home baked bread and tasty ingredients. Twisty Road

If you’re looking for long spring motorcycle roads, the Twisty Road is for you. Starting out in Redbluff, CA, the 2-hour 140-mile stretch of Highway 36 is full of twists and turns that take you to Fortuna, CA. There is little to no reception, so make sure you are prepared. The roller coaster ride has some great views through the redwoods, but keep your eyes on the road as cows frequent the Twisty Road as well. Once you get to Fortuna, stop for lunch or dinner at the Eel River Brewing Company for a smoked pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese.

Going to the Sun Road

This 50-mile road trip starts out in St. Mary, MT and takes you through the Glacier National Park. During the spring, you will see some of the most beautiful wildflowers on the planet. The road is steep and curvy with meadows, streams and even mountain goats, elk and deer meeting you at every twist and turn. There are lots of hiking trails and places where you can enjoy a picnic.
